A post-op support or compression bra is a specially designed bra to be used right after breast surgery and throughout recovery. The bra provides support and compression, while protecting scar and wound area. Using a compression bra after breast surgery can reduce the risk of postsurgical complications and it is also specifically made to give the user an optimal feeling of comfort during reconvalescence.

THE BENEFITS OF POST-OP SUPPORT AND COMPRESSION ARE MANY

Post-op bras are recommended by many medical professionals as part of the post operative care after breast surgery. They are used with aim of reducing postsurgical bleeding and swelling, by compressing the breast and surrounding structures, while supporting tender and sore skin, contributing to the healing process and provide safety throughout the important postsurgical mobilization period.

Compressive bras are used with the aim of promoting circulation to decrease the swelling and reducing the inflammatory process to help reduce pain during postsurgical recovery. They should provide support and control to protect the scar areas at sudden uncomfortable movements — i.e. when sneezing or coughing — which is especially important during the immediate post-surgery stage.

Providing the optimal conditions while healing will provide the best circumstances for a good postsurgical outcome, a comfortable recovery and a best possible looking result of a breast reduction, breast augmentation or after mastectomy.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF SUPPORT AND COMPRESSION BRAS

As many different breast surgical procedures have evolved, both surgeons and users have different requirements for post-op bras.

FOR IMMEDIATE POSTSURGICAL USE

Smooth and supportive fit for sensitive skin. Carefix postsurgical bras are designed to be worn immediately following breast surgery or radiotherapy, when the skin is still tender and sensitive. The seamless design and soft fabric are ideal for the postsurgical stage, offering support and full freedom of movement without restricting or irritating sensitive tissue. The front opening and the flexible material allows easy inspection of the wound site and dressing changes. Furthermore, it facilitates application for both nursing staff and patient. All materials used are latex free and Oeko-Tex certified in order to assure that there are no harmful substances in the selected materials.

Optimal balance between compression and comfort is important. After a breast operation there will often be swelling and oedema in the area around the wound. The smooth and seamless design of the Carefix bras will help minimize possible irritation of the wound. The front opening makes it easy to apply without any discomfort for the patient or stress to the surgical site. The wide seamless ribbed band underneath the bust is designed to be soft and comfortable to wear and not irritate any wound while allowing drains unimpeded access.

WE ADHERE TO THE STRICTEST MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS AND CERTIFICATIONS

The integrated support and compression zones are unique for Carefix bras and designed to support the breast and scar areas. Each bra is designed with specific support and compression zones according to the medical indication.

After a breast operation there will often be swelling and oedema in the area around the wound.  The elasticated 4-way stretch material ensures a supportive fit, which also expands and contracts with the patient’s breast after any breast procedure. It will naturally provide an optimal compression over the wound area at all times  while still being very soft and comfortable to wear. With the built-in support and compression zones these post-op bras provide an optimal balance between compression and comfort. Their unique expansion and contraction properties permit the bra to conform to body contours – ensuring optimal support and compression, providing the patient with maximum comfort.
